Virtual Mission Italy 2020 water technology and fashion & textiles

Italy & the Netherlands: Together towards a true circular economy

This mission aims to bring together representatives from Italy and the Netherlands to discuss how we can collaborate to improve water use, wastewater treatment and circularity in fashion in order to build truly a circular economy. We invite you to join us on this digital mission during the Ecomondo conference in Italy. Let’s inspire and be inspired by forward-thinking minds in the field of Water Technology and Fashion and Textiles. Here you can meet like-minded partners to continue shaping a more sustainable world together.

Added value of collaboration

Climate change, extreme weather events and scarcity of raw materials affect and concern us all. With more and more people using the limited resources available, we are putting the planet under increasing pressure. To feed, clothe and sustain a growing world population, we need to rethink the way we use scarce resources such as food, water and raw materials.

To leave a better world for future generations, we need to find smarter solutions. By taking advantage of all opportunities technology and digitalisation offer, we can become more innovative and sustainable. Over the centuries, the Dutch have learnt the added value of collaboration when tackling water-related issues. Now we want to apply the same inclusive principles to the use of water and the fashion industry. With this experience in mind, we recognise that global challenges require global collaboration.

Triple helix approach to future solutions

In the Netherlands, companies, knowledge institutions and government organisations work closely together to develop the technologies and solutions of the future. We call this the ‘Triple Helix approach’. We work across sectors and ‘connect minds’, to find solutions to current and future societal challenges together. And for us, cooperation does not stop at the border. As a small country, we are always looking to team up with like-minded partners abroad.

Whether we develop new food solutions, innovative water technology or circular products, our departing point is always the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. We believe achieving the SDGs is not only good for the planet, but also for individual countries. Working together on the SDGs can generate trade, and investment, and attract talent from abroad. Our inclusive sustainable solutions should benefit society, protect our planet, generate profit and prosperity, and foster worldwide peace and security.
